Saudi Arabia is home to another debate on the social media as the picture of a 16-year-old father holding his newborn baby has gone viral.
Meet, Ali Al-Kaissi. He is the resident of the Saudi city of Tabuk. Talking to the local media he said that his wife, who is 15-year-old gave birth to their first child who is a son at the Military Hospital in Tabuk.
Talking to Alweeam newspaper, he said: “Thank God for everything. Our happiness is indescribable.”
The Saudi daily, Okaz reported that the young Ali Al-Kaissi is the youngest groom in the city of Tabuk. The 16-year-old got married to his cousin almost a year and a half ago.
When his wife was going through labor pains the hospital refused to operate as her father was not present in the hospital because she was under the age of 18.
Al-Kaissi told the local media that the hospital wanted that her father to be present and to sign an official document that allows the doctors to do Cesarean if it is necessary.
He said: “I met the head of the hospital and he was very responsive. He [then] allowed me to sign the document.” He mentioned that things were fine with his wife and she gave birth to their first son without a Caesarean.
The young father told the media that the mother of his wife is taking care of the child and helping her adjust to the motherhood.
Back in July, many of the Shura Council members in Saudi Arabia sent a letter to the Saudi Justice Ministry. They demanded to ban the marriage of girls who are under the age of 15.
The members also wanted to regulate laws of matrimonial for the girls who are aged between 15 and 18 years old.
According to the new suggested conditions if someone would be getting married in that age group it should be approved from both the bride-to-be and her mother. A medical report of the girl should be attached with the approval that will confirm that the girl is all good for marriage medically and finally an approval from a specialised judge.
